6th March 2008

Dear Parents,

The hand over of all the inside work is about to happen and so there may be changes afoot in the near future. I have been informed that the demolition work of knocking down the existing toilets will start next week. This will mean lorries coming in and out of the site due to the removal of the rubble. I cannot stress enough that you must tell the children to be careful on their walk down to school, keeping to the side and stopping if any traffic does come through. I will do a lot in school about safety when walking, but it is important that we do keep walking. Can you also remind the children to take care when walking by the residents houses and take care NOT to walk over any flowers? The new classroom is looking very bright and sunny and we have decided to set up the smart board and shelving before moving Class 2 in. Once this has happened we will give the other classroom a really good Spring clean and before the two week holiday will move Reception from the staff room into their own classroom….how EXCITING!! Once this has been done we shouldn’t be disturbed by the builders inside, but I’m sure the demolition, digging of footings, steel framework and stonework will cause a lot of interest!!

World Book Day

We had a really great day yesterday and it really called on all my ingenuity to guess what character the children were. We had Popeye, Bilbo Baggins, horse riders, knights, kings, Princesses and pop stars. The children were very creative with their plays and it was great to see all the age groups working together. They all performed to each other and it was interesting to see children come to life and take part. We can’t wait for the new hall so we can do lots more drama and improvising work. The SeaLegs Puppet Theatre was very good and told the story of The Selfish Giant. It was very creative and the ending moved even the adults watching. During a very chilly afternoon the book sale, choc ices, drinks and games were set up. All the children spent their money and I can announce that a very fantastic £100 was raised. Some of this will go towards helping our two children in Kenya and the rest will buy some resources for each class.

Brownie Post

For many years there has been a Brownie group in Chedworth and many of our girls have attended. It is a great outlet and really important that it is available for future generations. The present leaders are however both resigning and so there leaves a very big problem….no one to run it!! If anyone is interested you could contact Irene Catton on 720515 or ask Jo Leigh (mum of Rosie Y2 and Molly Reception). It would be very sad to loose this so think hard!

Bonus Balls

There are now some spare Bonus Balls that can be obtained from Wendy James in the office on a Wednesday and Thursday morning. Basically you pay £1 per week and if your ball is the bonus ball on the Saturday Lotto you will win half of the takings. This could be about £24.50. The other £24.50 is then given to the PTA. This means over the whole year we raise about £1,200 which is brilliant. If you would like any more information please ask at the office.

School Lunches

I will be looking at the School dinner menu soon and so look out for some changes. We do have to order the food so if your child is ill we unfortunately cannot give them one at another dinner time. The only circumstances we will do this is if we make the mistake by not remembering the children were going on a trip or a sports event.

On Monday 10th March the electricity supply will be interrupted from 8.30a.m. to 4.00p.m. This is to carry out essential work and it cannot be done safely without turning off the supply. Besides the lights and computers this will not affect the running of the school, except boiling the kettle for hot drinks!! Breakfast Club will continue and School Lunches will be as normal as the Farm Shop is not affected. With oil heating we also do not have to worry about heating. Lets hope it’s a nice bright day and not gloomy and dull!!

Yours truly,

T. Buck
