18th June 2008

Dear Parents,

Today our Y3 children have been to Northleach Primary School to take part in a Measurements Fair. This has been part of our Cluster work during the year and we have been looking at using Maths across the Curriculum and concentrating on Measures. The children have mixed up into groups from all the schools and then gone to practical activities based on weight, capacity and length. All activities have been based on Holidays and to join in with this theme. They went dressed in Summer gear.

To continue on this theme we are basing Thursday and Friday on measures. In the morning we will mix up all the age groups and there will be activities based on weight, capacity, length and time. These will take place from 9.15a.m. to 11.30a.m. each morning and over the two days the children will visit all areas.

WE WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU TO DROP IN DURING THE MORNINGS TO SEE WHAT THE CHILDREN ARE DOING AND SEE NUMERACY AS

FUN!!

During the afternoons each class will then continue work on measurement. We are doing this to highlight the different ways of measurement there are and how to read scales and use equipment as well as problem solving.

DON’T FORGET TO POP IN AND HAVE A LOOK AT WHAT IS GOING ON

Class 4 Family Service

This is taking place on SUNDAY 22ND JUNE at 11.00a.m. The children have been very busy preparing for this and have based the Service on Forgiveness. They will be reading, acting and showing art work. The other 3 classes have held very successful and well supported services. We are hoping the same will apply to Class 4 so please do join us in the service.

Class 3 Trip to Bristol

Last Friday the class set off to Bristol on the second visit of the term. During this visit they went to see some of the great landmarks and explored some of the entertainments a city can give. Their bus journey showed them the main areas and then took them to the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Here they had a talk about how it was built and of course about the famous Isambard Kingdom Brunel. They were full of the fact that one lady was saved when falling from the bridge by her very billowing petticoat and skirt. After a quick lunch they went to @Bristol to explore the Universe in the Planetarium and then on to explore!! All this will then help them to compare life in the city to that of the countryside. Many thanks to the PTA who funded the coach.

Y6 Taster Days

Over the next few weeks our Y6 children will be visited by their new Secondary School teachers and also go and spend taster days at their new schools. This is all part of the induction and makes the transfer from Primary to Secondary easier. We are very lucky that all the schools in this area take time and care over this very important time.

We have 13 children starting and most are girls….balancing up the 7 out of 9 who were boys this year!! The new children were all very good and although a little bemused seemed to enjoy their tour around and meeting all the other children.
