25th June 2008

Dear Parents,

Well the weather had a bit of a wobbly on Saturday but I certainly think it didn’t spoil the day – after all WE ARE BRITISH ! The stalls were all set up and by 2.00p.m. the hall filled with people having a go on Tombolas, Raffles and Toys. My there were a lot of toys and I think the fun the children had browsing and buying was great. With cakes and teas, bric- a- brac and ICE CREAMS…..the afternoon went well. The outside activities were a little reduced but the football, ladder and apple bobbing entertained. With the 6-8 Club’s T Pee it helped the afternoon pass and the total amount at the moment is £2,400!! WOW!! This means both the school and church will get about £1,200 EACH. A HUGE BIG THANK YOU to everyone who baked, donated, sorted, manned stalls and MOST OF ALL – SPENT. It was a great success.

Barn Dance – Friday 4th July

So now onto the next event. This one will keep you fit, be great for the whole family and stop that couch potato feeling we all get on a Friday night. It is a BARN DANCE featuring The Downfielders Barn Dance Band – recommended by Mr. Trim. It is at the Village Hall on Friday 4th July – 7.00p.m. to 10.00p.m. Cost of £12 per family (2 adults – 2 children) or £5 an adult and £2 a child. Tickets will be available from the School Office or Wendy James will have tickets for sale after school. They will be on sale from Thursday 26th June. The bar will be open and a Bar b Q to feed you when the energy starts to run out. Has anyone out there got a gas Bar B Q you could lend for the evening? It doesn’t have to be huge as we have one, but need a second. Also 3 helpers are needed to serve the food and take money so if you could help please see me or Mrs. Minns. A good FAMILY evening out for about £20….cheap as chips!!!

40 Butterfly Walks in Gloucestershire

Mr. Hugo has copies of this new booklet celebrating 40 years of the Charity Butterfly Conservation and containing 50 pages in colour at the amazing cost of ONLY £3.50. It includes a local Chedworth walk and an inspection copy can be viewed at school. If you would like a copy please leave your name and a cheque made payable to "Butterfly Conservation – Gloucestershire Branch" at school or ‘phone Mr. Hugo on 01453 882134 and leave a message. The booklets will be delivered to the school for collection

Measurement Days

Last Thursday and Friday we had great fun using and applying our skills based around measures. The children were all mixed up in their different year groups and it was really pleasing to see the older children taking care and actually teaching the younger ones. Not only did they do the numeracy they used their social skills very intelligently. We had times being made, foil boats, measuring using different equipment and lots of filling bottles. In the afternoons lots was done to consolidate and we all agreed…the children in particular…that doing was better than a worksheet. More of the same next year I think!!

Family Service

This was a great success and a very enjoyable service based on FORGIVENESS. The ten children who came certainly REPRRESENTED THEIR SCHOOL WITH PRIDE, by reading, acting and singing BRILLIANTLY. I cannot explain how proud I was as they carried the service themselves and got across the message of FORGIVENESS very well indeed. Many thanks to them all and to Miss Robinson who quietly organised the service. WELL DONE!!
