3rd July 2008

Dear Parents,

Now we must all keep focused as there is a lot going on and we could miss something!! The Old Time Music Hall is really going to be a spectacular of singing, dancing and surprise acts. I hope you are all getting your costumes ready….not just for the children but for you as well. We will get a great atmosphere of by gone years if we all make the effort and don’t forget those singing voices. The children will need their costumes on Monday 14th July for the dress rehearsal and obviously on Tuesday 15th for the matinee. TICKETS WILL BE ON SALE FROM MONDAY MORNING. All Pre-School children are welcome to attend the matinee performance but NOT THE EVENING. Children of school age to 16 will cost £2 – Adults £3. Remember we have a number limit so FIRST COME FIRST SERVED!!

Swimming Gala

Eight of our older children took part in the North Cotswold Swimming Gala and were very good as they swam like fish!! Miss Fan came back swelling with pride and although wet they had kicked so hard the boys won the relay and the girls came 2nd. Individual races saw Elliot winning both the front crawl and breast stroke and Peter winning the back stroke. All children did really well and REPRESENTED OUR SCHOOL WITH PRIDE.

Cycle Training

Twelve Y6 have spent 4 afternoons on cycle training and it wasa very good course indeed. They went out on the roads to train and the instructors were pleased with their efforts. Although trained we must always make sure the children are safe on the roads. Bikes need to be road worthy, children need to take heed of cars and THEY MUST WEAR A HELMET.

Stroud Swimming Club

Stroud Swimming Club will be running a Swim School from Tuesday 26th August through to Friday 29th August at Archway Swimming Pool. Sessions will be up to 45 minutes a time with a total cost of £20. Limited spaces are available so to book a place contact Carol Johnston on 01453 833347.

Children’s Craft Workshops at the Village Hall – 28th and 29th July

The Horticultural Society is holding some craft workshops in the Village Hall for children from the Reception Class through to Year 6. The aim is to give them an opportunity to create entries for two of the Open Classes at the year’s Annual Show & Fete – a decorated flowerpot and a sculpture made from recycled materials. If there is time, there will be an opportunity to start a collage. All the creations from each workshop will be entered into the Show for free in the child’s name. The Show is being held on Saturday 23rd August (the Bank Holiday weekend)

Due to pressures of space and staffing, each workshop will be limited to 15 children. If they are oversubscribed, we will try to give each child the chance to do at least one of the workshops.

The Workshops are being held on 28th and 29th July from 9.00a.m. until 10.30a.m. Materials will be provided free of charge but children are encouraged to bring their own as well. The cost of each workshop will be £1.50. We strongly recommend wearing old clothes or protective clothing!

If you are interested in taking part in one or more workshops, please ring Heather Robson on 720657.

Please note that ALL school CLUBS and HOMEWORK is stopping from this week.

NO MORE CLUBS                                     NO MORE HOMEWORK

Could all reading books and maths games please be brought back to school over the next week.

We will not be setting any work or reading for the children over the holidays. However it is important that this continues and reading books is essential. With any spare pocket money encourage buying a book BUT don’t forget the library…..a BRILLIANT service and FREE!! Remember …..you can get lost in a book!

New Hall

Some problems with the bricks being delivered has meant a slow period but things should once again get moving. The planned hand over is late September or Early October but whenever it will be FANTASTIC!

To help resource both the hall and PE we are relying on you all to pledge things for the AUCTION and to come along and buy. So far we have only got about 10 pledges from Parents so we won’t be able to even buy a bench!! Come on everyone we can all do something…..a cake, 2 hours gardening, flowers, babysitting, ironing….the list can go on. REMEMBER this is to benefit the CHILDREN so the more we raise the better their education.

COME ON……as Andy Murray would shout….COME ON!!

Barn Dance Friday 4th July

Don’t forget this is TOMORROW night from 7.00p.m. to 10.00p.m. Cost £12 per family or £5 an adult and £2 a child. Tickets available from the office or Wendy James. Not a lot of uptake so far and as I can’t jig about anymore we need more people to get sets up to number. Bar B Q and bar so….COME ON!!

Two weeks to go and such a lot to do. Mr. Murray is visiting school on Monday and will spend the afternoon with his new class. At 3.00p.m. he will be available for you to say hello and put a face to his name – but NO SCARING HIM!!

It’s all very exciting.

Kind regards,

T. Buck
