27th September 2007
Dear Parents,
It seems a long time ago that Class 4 went and safely returned from the Brecon Beacons. They had a great time and were very busy! On arrival they sorted out their rooms and after a hearty lunch went to Brecon. Here they explored the town and also asked residents and visitor's questions. Back at the hostel they had an orienteering session followed by dinner and games. Eventually it was time for bed....or was it! Peace did fall on the centre but let me tell you it was not before the clock struck 12!! Next morning after a very extensive breakfast they went off on a 2 and half hour (sorry parents can't find the half on my new computer!) hike across the Brecons and really found out what they were like. Lunch and coach home all by 4.00p.m. The children behaved BRILLIANTLY whilst away and a number of people in Brecon commented on their manners and politeness. The leader at the youth hostel also expressed his thanks for their behaviour. Many thanks to Mr. Bearcroft for going and the PTA for funding the coach.
Information Evenings
These have been running very successfully over the last week and have been very well attended. All the teachers have worked hard to produce an evening where routines, topic and objectives have been discussed. If you were unable to attend and would like a copy of the objectives please see your child's Class Teacher.
Young Leaders Award
This year we are giving our Y6 children the opportunity to gain their Young Leaders Award. To do this they have to lead the younger children in some sort of activity and I can announce that this is now going REALLY WELL! Eight of the children have worked on Wake and Shake routines and the other eight are doing the Y1-Y2 Sports Club or Huff Puff. It has been so good to see how they have all taken up this challenge and are keen to lead in such a mature way. In the Spring Term they will all change activities and by Summer will probably be able to run all of the PE sessions!
Parentline Plus
Although a little late these courses have been sent through and if you feel you would like to apply, please do so.

Sarah Garland
You may be aware, or not, But Sarah Garland, a children's writer lives in the village. She will be signing her new book 'Eddie's Kitchen' in the Waterstone's store on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 29th from 11a.m. to 1.00p.m.
Reading
Research shows that when the whole family is involved in reading the child's language and literacy skills are enhanced. To help encourage your children to experience the enjoyment to be had from reading
· Find the time to share books
· Always make sure it is a positive experience
· Be enthusiastic
· Talk to the children about the book
· Make sure the environment is quiet!! (no television on in the background)
· Use your tone of voice to help bring the text to life.
A passion for reading can have huge benefits, and the pleasure of sharing a book shouldn't be ignored. I read Charlotte's Web to my children each year when we were on holiday in the Summer for about 4 years and none of us ever tired of it!!
Kind regards,
T. Buck
