6 Dec 2007 - Newsletter 13

6th December 2007

Dear Parents,

School is transforming into a twinkling wonderland as Christmas has really started. It is very exciting and although the weather is very mild it hasn’t dampened our thoughts of snow, sleighs, jingle bells and Santa. Our Post Box is also ready for action so any cards the children want to send can be popped in and they will be delivered to the children via our Y6 Post People. Please remember to put the year group on the envelope as children do have the same names! You will also see that the Library has been cleared but will soon be full again. The classes are working on exploring traditional carols and will be displaying their ideas on the boards. I think we will see lots of angels, singing about the good news and the scene at the stables.

Cereal Boxes

We are going to do a Make and Buy Christmas hanging and need lots of cereal boxes to help in this venture. They are just the right thickness for what we want and many thanks to Mrs. Bowers for the idea. Please send into your children’s classroom.

Christmas Fayre – Friday 14th December – 3.00p.m.

This is rapidly approaching and to make it a GREAT success we need lots of things. Any toys, books, gifts, unwanted Christmas decorations and tombola gifts can be brought into my office at anytime. We will also need cakes and mince pies on the day or drop them off at the Village Hall after 1.00p.m. It is also very important all children are picked up really promptly as members of staff are running stalls and need to be at the hall as soon as possible.

Christmas Disco – Friday 7th December

We are all looking forward to a real swinging time on Friday but two things are lacking….up to date music and lights. Please send in CD’s with names on and track to play on Friday morning. We also need disco lights, Christmas lights or rotating lights to ensure we have the right ambiance!! Cost £2.50 to include a healthy hot dog and drink plus 50p for glow stick and 50p for the Beauty Parlour (optional). 6.00p.m. start with a PROMPT end at 7.30p.m. Many thanks to Charlotte Wigley who is helping with the Disco who I’m sure will make it double the fun!!

Athletics Challenge

Last Thursday Emma Y6, Mercedes Y5 went to represent the Cotswold Partnership in the finals at the Athletics Challenge. Both girls represented our school with pride but also our Cotswold Family. They took part gaining points and enjoying the challenge. Well done.

Annual Christmas Carol Concert

This is taking place on Saturday 8th December from 6.00p.m. to 7.30p.m. It is at the Village Hall. Adults £2 with children under the age of 12 free. There will be refreshments and a bar. Proceeds are in aid of St. Andrew’s Church.

Just to Clarify a few Dates

To keep us in the with The Cotswold School and all the other local Primary Schools we are finishing school on FRIDAY 21ST DECEMBER AND RETURNING ON MONDAY 7TH JANUARY. The Spring Holidays are also a little different. We are NOT in school on GOOD FRIDAY – MARCH 21ST or EASTER MONDAY – MONDAY MARCH 24th . We then return to school and have the two week holiday from MONDAY 7TH APRIL TO FRIDAY 18TH APRIL. This is because Easter is so early. Any queries please just ask at the office.

Walking to School

Last week I went out on a training course and at 8.35a.m. it amazed me to find that there were NO cars parked. Well done to all of you as it must mean you are all trying to walk either all the way or from the Village Hall. The children must be benefiting from the fresh air and exercise and so will you. Thanks a lot for all your co-operation and keep this up in the New Year.

Christingle Service

We are now all into the full swing of learning our little play ready for our Service on Wednesday 19th December – 6.30p.m. The play is called Little Angels and it would be great if we could have the children dressed as angels or shepherds. This is very easy as wings and tinsels will do for angels and the traditional tea towel headdress for the shepherds. Y2 children are making the tableau and will be given their costumes from the ones we have in school or you will be contacted individually by Ms. Fan if extras are needed. I’m sure it will look and sound delightful and set the scene for a very happy and peaceful Christmas for us all.

Good new! Good new! Good news!

The tenders are now in and a contractor has been allocated the job to build our New Hall. We should be having a site meeting before we break up for Christmas and work will start after the break. This is all very exciting so fingers crossed!!

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Kind regards

T. Buck
