12th December 2007
Dear Parents,
It is with great pleasure that I can announce that the children at the DISCO were BRILLIANT. They all joined in enthusiastically, took care with each other, took their turn waiting for the Beauty Parlour and waited patiently for their hot dogs. The added bonus of the GLOW STICKS caused great excitement and the hall looked very colourful as they glowed in the dark – the sticks NOT the children! Many thanks must go to the staff who had no need for crowd control and the PTA for organising the food. A great night that will indeed by repeated. Many thanks to a very enthusiastic Charlotte Wigley who really got the children dancing.
Swimming
The pool in Cirencester is to re-open in March so we will be having a 5 week slot until the end of term. I have enquired if we can go in the Summer Term but as yet have had no reply. Once I know we can make some decisions about when the children will be going. All I can say is that the first priority will be for Y5 and Y6.
Come on St. Andrew’s!
On a very damp Thursday our gallant football team went up to the Village Hall to play their match against Bourton on the Water. Mr. Claridge had already been informed by the coach from Bourton that they were keen and training very hard. Not to be phased by this our Y3 to Y6 boys played a great match. Team Captain Jacob Pudifoot scored a hat trick but also encouraged his team throughout. All played well but a special mention to Robert Stockford who played in his last ever match for St. Andrew’s. He played really well and nearly scored and over the last few years has represented our school with pride. With a 4-0 score line the boys celebrated their victory with a very happy Coach Claridge and are looking forward to future matches in the New Year.
Guitar Lessons
I am pleased to say that the Colwell Arts Centre has managed to secure a guitar teacher and so hopefully lessons will be starting in January. More details when I know more.
Morning Routines
Thank you all very much for helping the children to improve their independence and organisational skills. We are certainly finding that notes and letters are being returned and most have their book bags in school daily. We are now concentrating on the children looking after their own property and making sure they keep track of it…especially their sweatshirts!! It is also important that the cloakrooms are tidy and this is another area we are working on. Takes me back to when my own children lived at home and on the rare occasions I looked in their bedrooms I very nearly fainted!!
RECEPTION PARENTS – PLEASE NOTE THAT FROM JANUARY 7TH WE WILL BE ASKING YOU TO HAND THE CHILDREN OVER AT THE DOOR SO WE CAN HELP DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS AT THIS YOUNG AGE.
Christmas Bazaar
This took place on Friday November 30th at the Farm Shop. It was an extremely rainy evening but inside it was like a magical land. With smells of Christmas, the Christmas lights and stalls selling great crafts and produce it was just what was needed to get us in the Christmas spirit. A great deal of hard work went into this by Caroline Baker and all for the school. By taking donations from the stall holders and other bits and pieces we are going to be gratefully receiving about £520. With the added £200 plus raised by selling RAFFLE TICKETS this was a great success. The children also raised £33.50 by doing their games. What a great effort and LOADS of thanks to Caroline for all her tremendous efforts.
Carol Singing
On Saturday evening Mr. & Mrs. Pudifoot, Mr. & Mrs. Bowers, Andrea Prosser, Jackie Heywood, Jo Leigh and Dawn Mann went around the village Carol Singing and selling Raffle Tickets. They managed to raise a further £100 and many thanks must go to them for all their efforts.
