Class 2 Letter - April 2007

Dear Parents,
I hope you have had a lovely break after a busy spring term. This summer term is going to be just as busy and in no time at all, your child will be in the next year group!
This letter informs you of some of the things we will be doing this term.
Science
In science we will be looking at 'Electricity'. The unit introduces the concept of electricity and the role it plays in everyday life. We will construct and make drawings of simple working circuits and explain why some circuits work and others do not.
Topic
Our main topic this term is 'Inventors'. We will cover objectives in Literacy and History. We will be looking at different inventors including Alexander Graham Bell, John Logie Baird and Thomas Alva Edison, so there will be close links with our science topic as well.
Design Technology
In DT we will be investigating, designing and making 'Puppets'. The unit involves making a textile product by marking out, cutting and joining pieces of fabric.
Religious Education
'Special Things To Help People Worship' is the area that we will be concentrating on in RE. We will be looking at what makes some special objects sacred and showing respect for other people's precious and sacred belongings. We will also look at what some religious symbols and artefacts mean and how they are used in Christianity and Judaism.
Please encourage your child to bring in items relating to the above topics, as time will be given to show, tell and discuss them.
Art
We will be concentrating on 'Painting' skills this term. We will be looking at primary and secondary colours, making colours lighter and darker and using different types of paint (eg ready mix, water colours, finger, powder etc).
Information, Communication, Technology
In ICT we will be 'Labelling and Classifying'. The unit covers describing objects using key pieces of information. We will be using simple criteria to divide groups of objects into sub-sets, and to identify objects by key words. We will use a word processor with a word bank to present information.
PE
PE days are Mondays and Fridays for Class 2. We shall be using the school grounds for PE this term and will be concentrating on Games and Athletic skills. PE kits should be in school every day in case of bad (or good) weather. PE kits should include white t-shirt, navy shorts or bottoms, navy sweatshirt, socks, trainers or suitable footwear. As always, long hair must be tied back for any physical activity and studs and watches removed. No other jewellery should be worn during school time.

Routines
- Morning Activity
Please look on the board for the morning's activity. They are used to help start the day in a quiet and peaceful way and to prepare your child for the day ahead. Activity books are kept in your child's drawer.
- Snack
Every morning please remind your child to put their snack into their drawer. A fruit snack is a must every day, except for Wicked Wednesday, when something else can be included as well.
- Water Bottles
Please make sure your child's water bottle is in school, washed and refilled with fresh water daily.
