Class 3 Letter April 2007
Dear Parents,
I'm glad to say it's the summer term - we're certainly going to be making the most of the sunshine! I hope you've had a lovely Easter break and you're all ready for a brilliant term ahead.
Our topic this term is Cheddar Gorge. We will be focussing on how both Cheddar and Chedworth cater for tourists as well as residents by comparing the provision each town/village makes. This project will mainly be the focus of our Literacy, Geography, some History, and Art.
Our Art work this term will focus on drawing and painting with watercolours so the children will be looking in detail at objects and people near and far away so we will learn the different techniques we can use to create this effect. Our Science topic is Light and Dark so we will be thinking about the different effect light has on objects and how shadows are formed and change. We will be linking the light and dark theme into our art work as well.
As I'm sure you are aware the children will be working increasingly hard on learning words and singing their hearts out in preparation for Joseph And His Amazing Techni-Coloured Dream-Coat! It's going to be excellent! These sessions will form the time allocation for the children's music lessons which will be taught by Jonathan Trim and Mrs Buck. I will be teaching Music to Class 2 during these times.
Homework routines will remain the same:
Mondays and Wednesdays - Maths activity
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays - 15 minute reading session
It is recommended that your child reads out loud to you during these sessions as this will help his/her reading fluency to improve further.
On a Monday homework will be given out to be returned on the Friday of the same week unless otherwise stated. Spellings, along with multiplication tables, will also be given out to be learned during the week for Friday's spelling and mental maths quiz.
Homework diaries should be handed in to me on Fridays (having been signed by an adult at home) so I can write a comment regarding your child's homework. Please feel free to comment yourselves too!
Our Class Values also remain unchanged.
Just to remind you, our class values are:
Be a trustworthy person.
Be positive in every situation.
Look after the class, the school and everything in it.
Respect everybody at all times.
Listen when someone is speaking.
It would be fantastic if you would continue to model and support these values so your child receives consistency both at home and in school. Our School Value until the May holiday is truthfulness. I hope this gives you a flavour of things to come. Thank you for your continuing support.
As always, if you do have anything you would like to talk through with me, please don't hesitate to pop in and we can arrange a convenient time to meet if necessary.
All the very best, Miss A Vickery (not for long!!!)
