Dear Parents and Children,
Reduce! Reuse! Recycle
School Travel Plan
Over the last term the Eco- Committee have been looking at how we could put a School Travel Plan in place. The main idea is to get more people walking or cycling to school and so easing congestion around the school. The plan is being done with the help of Gloucestershire County Council Highways Department. More details will be coming out soon once the plan has been accepted and a grant, we hope, given. Some action from the plan include:
- get more families walking to school
- encourage car sharing
- to have better cycle facilities
- to show that walking can be fun healthy and quality time.
Maybe we could have a Walk to School Wednesday!
Learning about our Carbon Footprint
As part of the School Travel Plan we are also going to learn about the CO2 effect on the earth and how we can help. Did you know you can work out your family carbon footprint by going to www.carbonfootprint.com. The best thing to do is REDUCE the amount of CO2 you are responsible for!!
Village Hall Notices
Before Christmas the Eco-School wrote to the Village Hall Committee to ask if they could put up notices to remind hirers about recycling after an event. The Village Hall Committee were very pleased to allow this and have also suggested we use one of the notice boards to make a display. We are working on this at the moment so look out for it in the near future.
Fact
When you are next in a supermarket have a look at how much plastic is used to wrap food. Most of this ends up as WASTE, which is dumped in a hole in the ground. It takes hundreds of years to rot away. TWO TOP TIPS
- Choose the foods that have less wrapping
- re-use your old bags when you go shopping
Due to two members, Ewen and Jacob, going to New Zealand, we have two new members - George Broad and Sophie Minns.
Green Flag
We have been working hard to reach the stage where we could apply for THE GREEN FLAG and we are pleased to say we are ...READY. The application will go in and we will await the date for assessment!!
