REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
Eco School Newsletter January 20th 2006
Welcome to the first newsletter of the new year. May we wish you all a very HAPPY RECYCLING New Year. We hope you have all remembered to reduce, reuse and recycle through the season and WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO throughout the year ahead.
SHARING THE WORLD
In our environmental lessons we are looking at sharing the world with the animals. It will help us to understand that animals are living, feeling beings and need to be treated with respect and compassion. Class 1 and 2 will have a competition to see who can design a poster to show us all living together in harmony.
THE GREAT LUNCHBOX CHALLENGE
This months competition is about reducing the amount of unrecyclable rubbish in lunchboxes and trying to re-use items more. If you take a look at the Eco board you will see Harry and Hermione took part in a challenge and at first glance the lunchboxes appear the same. Take a closer look with REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE in mind and you will see things differently. The competition is for Class 3 and 4 and closes on January 27th.
In Spring 4 the whole school will be taking part in the challenge to see who can make up lunchboxes which produce the least amount of rubbish. Everyone needs to think about this and how things are packaged as well as keeping it HEALTHY.
ECO FACT
Fair Trade goods mean that no children have been exploited in the making. At school the staff are now going to have their tea, coffee and sugar from FAIR TRADE.
We have met these targets last term
- Rubbish is now put in the correct bins
- Smaller Grundon bin showing reduced waste and costs less
- Less radiators on
- Fruit eaten 4 times per week
This term we are hoping to reach these targets
- Less waste in lunchboxes
- Computers and other electrical appliances only turned on when in use and not left on standby
- Use Fairtrade coffee, tea and sugar
- Use blu tac to put up displays
- Only laminate work if it is going to be reuse
DON'T FORGET THAT A GOOD BREAKFAST IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE CHILDREN.
